Ryan is Katie's love interest through Season 2 and they have a mutual and amicable breakup in the middle of Season 3.

Ryan is shown to be quite caring, but also anxious and awkward around Katie. He has a passion for Katie, and loves and adores her. He sometimes gets scared to be honest, but that is because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. He is a very sweet person.*

Ryan first appears in The Play Part 1 as Romeo when Katie Cooper gets cast as Juliet. He shares his first kiss and is Katie's first kiss in the play. Katie asks Ryan out to the Winter Formal. He obviously has a crush on Katie, which is displayed throughout the entirety of The Play Part 1 and in more episodes. They have a awkward, cute crush which is displayed throughout the series even when they are broken up.
